private, independent and not-for-profit entities committed to providing a high standard of service to residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural customers with at-cost electric service. Each of North Carolina's electric cooperatives is governed by a board of directors elected from its membership, and members are also owners. North Carolina's electric cooperatives emphasize the importance of community involvement, integrity, accountability and innovation.

  • More than 95,000 miles of power lines are maintained by NC's electric co-ops, which is the most of any utility in the state.
  • More than 99 percent of NC's electric cooperative customers are residential and small business.
